The U.S. media have never told the truth about U.S. foreign policy regarding Syria. Obama’s foreign policy was always about the Qatar pipeline and never about chemical weapons or “freedom fighters” who opposed Assad.
Obama’s “red line” against Assad’s use of chemical weapons was always pure baloney. In 2013 UN observers proved that it was rebel forces supported by Obama, not Assad, who used chemical weapons. Reuters reported the story here. The U.S. media ignored it because they were in the tank for Obama.
The Qatar pipeline was proposed in 2009 to ship Persian Gulf natural gas to Turkey and then into Europe, undercutting Russia’s exports of natural gas to Europe. Europe and Obama supported this plan over a rival plan for a pipeline sponsored by Iran.
Russia supports the Assad government and the Iran pipeline project. Qatar and Saudi Arabia and the United States and Turkey support the Qatar pipeline. There is no genuine civil war in Syria, only proxies for the two pipelines.
The Australian press had this figured out in 2015.
The Russians have accused the opposition forces of atrocities after their forces captured Aleppo. Refugees from Aleppo were sent to Idlib, the site of recent atrocities ascribed to the use of chemical weapons by the Assad government.
