The epidemic of fraud in science

The Times reports on a study of fraud in science and finds that about half of scientists surveyed had observed fraud and dishonest practices among their colleagues. However, only 2 percent of scientists admitted to engaging in such practices themselves. No one should be surprised that scientific fraud is so widespread. Science is an occupation without ethics that resists regulation. (more…)

Internet censorship coming soon

The Telegraph reports that Communist China will require internet censorship software on all computers starting in July. Porn and anti-revolutionary conversation will be censored. The program will be built in to all computers sold in China. Dell and Hewlett-Packard are considering whether to comply with China’s regulations. Not to pick on Dell or Hewlett-Packard, but most global tech companies are cooperating with China’s internet censorship and their spy network, the Golden Shield. (more…)

Stock markets around the world have rallied off their March lows. The talk on financial TV is about having avoided a Depression, green shoots, a sustainable recovery. Other key phrases of the financial conversation include the steepening yield curve (good for bank profits), the stress test, the possible housing bottom, the commodity boom, and demand for new iphones.
