Economic snapshot

The world economy is still operating under the master paradigm we outlined in our October post, How to interpret trends. The global economists and speculators on TV talk happy talk about how the Depression scenario was avoided by massive infusion of central bank stimulus, and they are predicting that the world economy is on the road to recovery. If they said anything else they would lose their jobs. A few mavericks such as Peter Schiff and Tyler Durden warn that trouble lies ahead, with debt defaults and hyperinflation. (more…)

Failing socialist states

An overview of states’ budget problems at Dollars and Sense. States are running revenue shortfalls that average 24 percent. The big problems: states run welfare programs employing vast numbers of bureaucrats. The federal government currently supplies around 20 percent of states’ budgets, for Medicare. Neither of these trends is sustainable. Each state is faced with the problem of declining tax revenues and is urgently searching for more income. Unfortunately, most of the thinking at the state government level is how to maintain existing programs rather than how to maintain state solvency by eliminating programs and bureaucrats. (more…)

Afghanistan fronts the wider war

We refrained from commenting on President Obama’s Afghanistan speech. As you’ll recall, the Right was excited about Obama sending more troops and the Left was appalled. Nobody could figure out why Obama would announce a troop escalation and then set a deadline for beginning withdrawal eighteen months later. Obama succeeded in confusing everyone. The confusion arises because people listen to his speeches and believe he is telling the truth. If you simply recognize Obama as one of the great liars of our time, you won’t fall into confusion. We aren’t interested in commentary on speeches, it’s a waste of everybody’s time. Obama’s speeches take everybody’s eye off the ball. He is a master of misdirection. (more…)

Let’s say that you are a materialist atheist Marxist liberal. You have put your faith in scientific materialism leading to theoretical truths that are superior to any other form of investigation and thinking. Even though the theories and the consensus about them keep changing. You believe that science can be applied to history and society, and all previous human values can be ignored as superstition under the scientific dictatorship. Marxism or Neomarxism is that authoritative study. You follow the party line, believing that more government exerting power over economy and society is a really good thing. (more…)

The Copenhagen takeover

Posted By on December 22, 2009

What happened at Copenhagen? We want to get past the street theater, the Left’s endless factionalism, the propaganda drip, and the infantile posturing of the socialist crybabies. Here is a quick jump through the lowlights of the world’s biggest Green party.

First, debunking the climate change myths. (more…)

Finding freedom

Claire Wolfe has done more thinking about finding your freedom than we have. She has a backwoods survival site, and she is part of a larger organization called the Free State Project. The Free State members voted to move to New Hampshire. We’ll pass on New Hampshire, but relocating might help you avoid the socialist control machine for a while. We found the following posts of interest:

Radical Evolution, Part 2

Review of Joel Garreau, Radical Evolution, New York: Doubleday, 2004.

Opposition to DARPA’s Planned Future

Henry David Thoreau warned that men have become tools of their tools, but this warning hasn’t stopped anything. Thousands of sci fi movies showing the controllers controlling the masses haven’t changed anything. We can’t expect mass opposition when the agenda is revealed. The agenda is already revealed, or partially revealed, and very few people are even concerned about it. (more…)
