In Japan, the sexes are “spiraling away from each other” toward a dystopian future of emotional distance devoid of relationships, sex, and marriage. We wish we could arrange the causal factors in the right order: Is it, feminism, role reversal, perversion, celibacy, enforced adolescence, emotional withdrawal, peer pressure, sex-substitute entrpreneurship, leading to total social devolution and the end of the Japanese race? Economic stagnation and the rise of the virtual reality pseudoculture reinforce these new roles and attitudes. Once apathy and emotional distance become the norm, it becomes impossible to reverse the trend with public messages and financial incentives from the government.
