Criminal politicians

California Representative Darrell Issa has obtained emails between New York Fed lawyers and AIG indicating that the Treasury Department suppressed the names of other banks that benefited from the AIG bailout, particularly Goldman Sachs. FOX News broke the story, and other networks are picking it up.

Congress will call Secretary Geithner to testify at a congressional hearing January 18.

More commentary on possible criminal charges at FOX.

Geithner’s problem of the moment is being caught in a lie regarding knowledge of the terms of the AIG bailout. The bigger issues are, the Treasury’s bailout loans under TARP were illegal, and the oversight committee was unable to monitor the flow of funds due to obstruction. The heart of Geithner’s corruption is his conflict of interest acting as an agent favoring Goldman Sachs. It’s great to see Congress making an investigation into Geithner’s role. If Geithner can be nailed, other prominent corrupt Obama administration officials might fall as well.

Judicial Watch is out with its list of Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians for 2009. Nine of the ten were prominent Democrats: Dodd, Frank, Geithner, Pelosi, Obama, Jesse Jackson, Jr. Rangel, Holder, and Murtha.

Republican congressional investigators face an uphill battle due to the Federal Reserve’s obfuscation and the obstruction tactics of Attorney General Holder. If there was ever an opportunity for public disclosure, this investigation is it. If the Obama administration succeeds in shielding Geithner, the criminal nature of the bailout may be covered over and the republic will have lost its chance for financial reform.
